Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom plans to develop wind power industry in the country to provide up to 17 percent of wind power industry capacity by 2024, Rosatom’s Rusatom International Network said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The statement was issued following the Power-Gen conference in South Africa’s Johannesburg.

"By the end of 2020 we will have built 610MW wind farms in most energy-deficient regions of Russia with a high wind power potential. This is about 17% of the total wind power industry capacity planned for commissioning in Russia before 2024," the statement said.

The statement added that Rosatom intended to focus on southern Russian regions such as the Krasnodar Territory, the Republic of Adygea and the Rostov Region.
