The share of upgraded weapons and equipment in the service of the Russian Armed Forces has risen to 48 percent over the first half of this year, a senior Russian Defense Ministry official said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is undergoing a multibillion-dollar state program to upgrade its arsenal up to 70 percent by 2020.

"Taking into account deliveries in the first half of 2016, the material status of troops with modern armaments increased by 0.7 percent and now stands at about 48 percent," Anatoly Gulyaev, head of the Armaments Department, said at the unified military goods commissioning day.
