MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation plans to invite US observers to monitor the forthcoming elections to the State Duma, the lower chamber of parliament, on a personal basis, Vasily Likhachev, a member of the CEC, said Tuesday.
"We want to invite the Americans on a personal basis," Likhachev told RIA Novosti.
He added that the US observers have participated in Russia's elections only within the framework of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights missions.
Elections to the Russian Federal Assembly’s State Duma are to be held on September 18, 2016.
