MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow is concerned about "unfair" competition in the European and global energy markets, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.

"In addition to fair competition, there have been attempts to introduce elements of unfair competition, including exerting unilateral pressure, which is illegal, and pushing own jurisdiction on other nations," Lavrov said.

The foreign minister said the government was prioritizing "energy partnerships between the state and the private sector."

Lavrov was speaking at a ceremony that saw the Russian Foreign Ministry sign up to a cooperation deal with Gazprom Neft, a subsidiary of Russian-based energy giant Gazprom. The minister stressed that energy security in Russia, Europe and across the world was very important for Moscow.
