MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s economy needs to move from a “stand-by” level to considerable growth, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday.
“We have all seen the numbers one way or the other, and even though our results aren’t that bad in certain areas, the economic growth rate unfortunately remains negative. Over the first three months, according to figures from the Economic Development Ministry, the GDP has decreased by 1.4 percent. This is not good, but some positive trends have been noted,” Medvedev said during a meeting with the Economic Development Ministry.
“We need to do a lot in order to secure these positive moves, launch mechanisms for long-term economic development, and, as they like to say in our ministry, get out of the ‘stand-by’ level and move into considerable growth,” Medvedev said.
