"We will continue to provide any assistance necessary in investigating these heinous acts of terrorism,” Kerry said, adding that all those responsible for Tuesday’s tragedy would be brought to justice.
Moscow-based defense expert Vladimir Yevseyev described John Kerry’s visit to Brussels as just a show of US interest in European affairs, rather than a genuine desire to help.
“If they truly wanted to help Europe they would have allowed for European and Russian security agencies to restore cooperation. They also could have asserted influence over Turkish President Erdogan” Yevseyev told Radio Sputnik.
The expert added that the methods used by the US simply do not work and create a lot of problems for the Europeans. He also warned that the security threat in Europe would get even worse than it is now.
“The terrorist acts are just the tip of the iceberg. It won’t be long before the militants who are being trained right inside Europe will be ready to blow it up. <…> Much of the problems Europe is now facing stem from the migrant crisis, caused by ill-advised US and European foreign policy. Still, it looks like Europeans just don’t realize the magnitude of this terrorist threat. They think that the problem will soon disappear all by itself,” Yevseyev said.
He also noted that, in view of the Americans’ inability to solve this problem, Europeans would be better off enlisting the help of Russian security agencies.
“Europe is in a state of shock and it doesn’t seem it will be able to recover on its own. <…> The US will not start solving Europe’s domestic problems. And while cooperation between US and European security services looks good on paper, it was unable to prevent the terrorist attacks in Paris and those which just happened in Brussels,” Yevseyev said.
“Under the circumstances working with Russia would be the best option but, unfortunately, Europe hasn’t realized this yet,” the expert added.
