MOSCOW (Sputnik) – All aspects of the international law were taken into account when the decision to construct a bridge over the Kerch Strait connecting Russia's mainland and the Crimean Peninsula was made, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.
"Certainly, all aspects from the point of the international law, and so on, were calculated, were taken into account, when making the decision," Peskov told reporters, answering a question on possible difficulties in obtaining consent from Ukraine due to the shipping lines that will be affected by the construction area.
The Russian Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor) authorized the construction of the 19-kilometer (11.8 miles) bridge in February. It is expected to open in December 2018 and will become the longest bridge in Russia.
