Russia may revoke citizenship from those who have fought on the side of Daesh.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A proposal to strip those found to have fought on the side of Daesh of their Russian citizenship is being discussed, the deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry's anti-extremism department said Thursday.

"The deprivation of citizenship runs contrary to the Constitution, but this issue is currently under discussion," Vladimir Makarov said during a session of the Russian upper house of parliament devoted to the fight against extremism.

Daesh has been designated a terrorist group and outlawed in Russia and many other countries. The group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq, declaring a caliphate on the territories under its control.
