MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Savchenko is currently on trial for the murder of two Russian journalists during the conflict in eastern Ukraine. Russian prosecutors demand that the Ukrainian national be sentenced to 23 years in jail, while her defense team argues she is innocent. Savchenko has pleaded not guilty. The court ruling is due on March 21-22.
"As to Savchenko's health, which has been recently the focus of concerns by Ukrainian and Western politicians and media, it's not under any threat," the ministry said in a statement.
"Savchenko is feeling fine, continues her regular workout. She is under constant monitoring by Russian doctors," the statement said.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin discussed the access by Ukrainian doctors to hunger-striking Savchenko in a phone call earlier on Wednesday.
Lavrov told Klimkin that a Russian judge had been ready to allow the Ukrainian doctors to visit Savchenko in pre-trial detention center, but her arrogant behavior and insults at the court made such a visit impossible.
