Russian Deputy Agriculture Minister reported Monday about initiatives to create "green corridors" in the southern Russian Republic of Dagestan to reduce the delivery times of Iranian products, increase volumes and legalize current deliveries.

MAKHACHKALA (Sputnik) – So-called green corridors are planned in the southern Russian Republic of Dagestan for agricultural products from Iran, Russian Deputy Agriculture Minister Sergei Levin said Monday.

"First of all, we are interested in the creation of so-called green corridors for Iranian agricultural products relating to customs and phytosanitary service," Levin said, as quoted by the Republic of Dagestan head’s press service.

Iran Says Russia Has Unique Opportunity to Invest in Tourism, Agriculture
Speaking as part of Iranian Agriculture Jihad Minister Mahmoud Hojjati’s two-day visit to the Republic of Dagestan, Levin said the green corridor would "significantly" reduce the delivery times of Iranian products, increase volumes and legalize current deliveries.

Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov hailed the green corridor as a "very good initiative," and said Makhachkala on the western shore of the Caspian Sea is "the only ice-free port capable of receiving products of any volume."

He observed that Dagestan could host a large logistics center to distribute products across other Russian regions.

The sides also discussed mutual cooperation in the fields of sailing and fishery.
