MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is not planning to build an “Iron Curtain” and leave the international legal space, Russia’s speaker of the upper house of parliament said Tuesday.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said that excessive external pressure has been exerted against Russia lately and a real political information war has begun, which uses international courts and their investigations as levers of pressure.
Because of this, Russia was forced to amend its legislation, giving the Constitutional Court the right to dismiss rulings handed down by international courts if they contradict the Russian constitution, she said.
“This in no way means that we are going to build an ‘Iron Curtain’ and leave the international legal space, not under any circumstances. Our decisions are based on the necessity to protect our national interests and avoid situations in which we have to implement blatant discriminatory and anti-Russian judicial acts,” Matvienko said.
