Medvedev: Expenses on Gov’t Staff Will Be Cut Back by 10% in Russia in 2016

According to the Russian prime minister, expenses on the government staff will be reduced by 10 percent in 2016.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia will cut back expenses on the government staff by 10 percent in 2016 amid an economic crisis, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Saturday.

“We are reducing the state apparatus by 10 percent, of course, without sacrificing the quality of work. Last year, the salaries of civil servants were reduced by 10 percent. This year, they will again be reduced by 10 percent,” Medvedev said, speaking at the first stage of the United Russia party’s congress.

The measures under a new Russian economic action plan will allow the country's economy to respond quickly to the external business environment, as well as to support entire sectors and the labor market, Dmitry Medvedev added.

“We are developing a new economic action plan. It will be based on measures that will allow to promptly respond to the external environment, as well as to support people and entire sectors of the economy, which are vital for the state of life,” Medvedev said, speaking at the first stage of the United Russia party’s congress.
