The Islamic State terrorist group employs pop-style propaganda on social networking sites to encourage young followers to join its ranks, a lawyer with the Russian association of religious studies told Sputnik on Friday.

“The terrorists also use methods of zombification, which the German Nazis used on the inmates of their death camps. These very methods were later emulated by American and British intelligence to create what we now know as totalitarian sects whose members are brainwashed and turned into their own country’s enemies,” Alexander Korelov said.

In its campaign to recruit young followers Islamic State relies, among other things, on modern movies, computer games and social networks like Facebook, Twitter and others.

The ISIL recruiters are also playing up to young people’s disenchantment with the existing sociopolitical system they live in, their quest for social justice and equality and their desire to live in a better, cleaner world.

However, all these lofty ideals are being used by the terrorists as a means of camouflaging their real, inhuman intentions, the expert added.

“The first thing one coming to a totalitarian sect or group has to deal with is a substitution of notions or doublespeak because the ideas of social justice the leader of a totalitarian sect instills in his followers reflect his own idea of justice. Which means that  the end justifies the means. The only way we can effectively combat this terrorist propaganda is by sticking to our traditional cultural and moral values,” Alexander Korelov said.

“Most of our people are ready to embrace these traditional values. We need to act as one against these attempts to destroy our society and work together to improve the moral health of our nation,” Alexander Korelov said in conclusion.
