MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to investigations, Chistov was on active duty as a policeman in Russia and set up contacts with the US Central Intelligence Agency.
During his time as a US intelligence agent, he collected and passed over information, including state secrets, abroad over a time period of three years.
“On November 12, 2015, the Moscow Regional Court found Evgeny Chistov, a former Interior Ministry employee from the Moscow Region, guilty of state treason in the form of espionage. The court has sentenced E. Chistov to 13 years in a high security prison,” the FSB said in a statement.
Chistov pled guilty, confirmed he was recruited by the CIA, and that he had given foreign special services state secrets on the activities of the Russian Interior Ministry.
