MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Aviadarts military aviation competition, hosted by Russia within the framework of the International Army Games, will resume on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
On Sunday, a Mi-28 attack helicopter crashed while performing a demonstration flight at the airshow in the Ryazan Region, some 110 miles south of Moscow. One of the pilots died in the incident, and the second has been hospitalized and is said to be in a stable condition, according to the Defense Ministry. The incident had put the next phase of the contest into doubt.
The Aviadarts show is an annual competition to test flight skills and precision shooting, organized by the Russian Defense Ministry. The contest, which features fighter jets, bombers and other aircraft, was first held in Russia in 2013.
This year’s international stage of the competition is taking place near Ryazan, Russia, between August 2 and 8.
The 2015 International Army Games competition, which kicked off on August 1, has attracted more than 2,000 participants from 17 countries. Some 11 different locations across Russia are playing host to the contest, which is due to finish on August 15.
