MOSCOW (Sputnik) President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday signed a decree authorizing destruction of food imports under current embargo starting August 6, the Kremlin press service said in a statement.

"Agricultural products, raw produce and food products, which originated in countries that have imposed economic sanctions against Russian legal entities and/or individuals, or those that joined such sanctions, and therefore banned from entry on the territory of the Russian Federation, will be destroyed [on the border] starting August 6, 2015" the statement said.

According to the document, food products for personal consumption or in transit to third countries will not be subject to destruction.

In June, the Russian government announced a one-year extension of the ban on the importation of certain food products from countries that imposed sanctions against Russia.

The list of products, first prohibited from being imported to Russia in August 2014, comprises meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy products, fruit and vegetables.

According to a study by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research, issued last month, the European Union could lose up to $114 billion as a result of the anti-Russia sanctions if things remain unchanged.
