VIP passengers could be required to wait in regular passport control and security lines at Russian airports.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – VIP passengers could be required to wait in regular passport control and security lines at Russian airports, the Kommersant newspaper reports.

The Vnukovo International Airport confirmed with the Russian newspaper that a change in VIP regulations was coming, while the Sheremetyevo International Airport said that VIP passengers were to continue receiving service "in full" without any restrictions.

An anonymous source told Kommersant that Sheremetyevo had managed to reach a compromise with the authorities on the new VIP rules.

The Federal Agency for the Development of the State Border Facilities of the Russian Federation (Rosgranitsa) told the newspaper that VIP passport control and customs services were still being offered at all Russian airports. Rosgranitsa did not specify, however, whether the situation could change in the future.

Kommersant estimates that Russian airports could lose a major part of their revenues as a result of the new VIP restrictions, specifying that as of now, a single VIP lounge brings about 10 million roubles (over $179,000) a month.
