ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — The festival is also dedicated to the deeds of the Arctic convoys, which sailed from the United Kingdom, Iceland, and North America to northern ports in the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1945, delivering supplies under the lend-lease program.
Icebreakers Krasin, Moskva, Ivan Krusenstern, Kapitan Sorokin will be operating on the Neva River during the festival days. Visitors will be able to come on the icebreakers’ decks and examine the ships.
On May 3, the icebreakers will take part in the special musical show.

During the festival, Saint Petersburg city residents and guests will get to know more about Russian modern shipbuilding technologies.
Apart from the above, special tours will be organized to the icebreaker Arktika being built at the Baltic shipyard.
The festival guests will also be able to visit the interactive zones located on the Lieutenant Schmidt embankment, which will depict lives of people living in the Arctic, and reveal details of polar expeditions.
This will be the second icebreaker festival held in Saint Petersburg. The previous festival was held in May 2014, and celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Russian icebreaking fleet.
