Quarter of Russians Believe Country in Top-10 of World Economies - Poll

68% of Russians Think Russia Plays Major Part in Global Affairs - Poll
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Moscow-based pollster Public Opinion Foundation (FOM) released a report on Tuesday showing that 24 percent of Russians rank their country's economy among the top-10 most developed economies in the world.

The FOM poll of 1,500 respondents was conducted earlier in March.

About 40 percent of those surveyed, however, ranked Russia somewhere between 10th and 50th in terms of economic development.

In a similar poll conducted in 2013, only 11 percent of respondents ranked Russia in the world's top-10 economies.

While in 1998, FOM's very first survey on the issue revealed that only four percent of those surveyed considered Russia to be one of the 10 most economically developed nations.

In 2014, the International Monetary Fund rated Russia the ninth largest economy by Growth Domestic Product (GDP) in current prices.

The London-based think tank Legatum Institute placed Russia 57th out of 142 countries covered in its 2014 ranking of world's economies. The institution used multiple parameters in its assessment, including inflation, market size and unemployment.
