US DOJ Has to Go Through 'Thicket of Privacy Rules' to Fight Cybercrime
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Highly skilled hackers coupled with organized crime groups make cybercrime a significant problem in Russia, according to a US State Department annual report on money laundering and financial crimes.

“Cybercrime remains a significant problem,” the report, published on Wednesday, said. “Russia’s highly skilled hackers and traditional organized crime structures have followed the global trend of increasingly combining forces, resulting in an increased threat to the financial sector.”

The US State Department said that the Russian government has taken “a number of regulatory and legal measures to strengthen its capacity to combat financial crime and money laundering.”

The United States has accused Russian hackers of multiple cyber-attacks, including on the US government. In February, US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are the leading cyber-threats to the United States.
