MOSCOW, November 20 (Sputnik) – The recent attack on a synagogue in Jerusalem goes beyond all limits, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.
“Life teaches us new lessons all the time, and although some of them take place far from our borders, we must pay attention to it. The recent brutal crime in Jerusalem, an axe attack on people saying their prayers, goes beyond all limits,” Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council devoted to extremism.
On Tuesday, five people were killed and six wounded in a terrorist attack, carried out by two Palestinian men, cousins Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal, at a synagogue in Jerusalem’s western Har Nof neighborhood. Both terrorists were shot dead by the police.
The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, an armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, claimed responsibility for the synagogue killings. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned the act of violence.
Earlier on Wednesday, the UN Security Council condemned the attack and called on Palestinian and Israeli leaders to avoid all provocations and seek a path toward peace.
