MONACO, November 4 (RIA Novosti) — Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs will use the Interpol database in order to provide security during the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, just as when Russia hosted the Universiade in 2013 and Olympic Games in 2014, Ministry's head Vladimir Kolokoltsev said on Tuesday.
"Interpol's databases provided great support for us during the summer Universiade in Kazan and the winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi. With its' help we carried out real-time identification of people coming to see the events," Kolokoltsev said during the 83rd Interpol General Assembly.
Russia was awarded the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup on December 2, 2010. The major football championship will be hosted by 11 Russian cities, namely Moscow, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, St. Petersburg, and Volgograd.
Interpol is a non-governmental organization with 190 member countries, which aims to facilitate cooperation between international police forces.
