MOSCOW, December 14 (RIA Novosti) – A man has handed over 1,200 hand grenades to police in the Russian city of Orenburg, the Interior Ministry’s regional department reported Friday.

The man is in line to receive 1.2 million rubles ($36,500) as a reward under Russian law after he discovered what appeared to be F1 grenades in a forest near the southern Urals city, put them in bags and brought them to police.

“In line with a resolution of the Orenburg Region’s government, a monetary reward is envisioned for voluntary surrender of illegally kept armament supplies,” an Interior Ministry official said.

The F1 grenade is an anti-personnel grenade originally developed in World War II. It can spray shrapnel over an effective radius of 30 meters.
