One of Russia’s main goals as chair of the Group of 20 nations is to boost global employment levels, its point man on G20 and BRICS issues said on Thursday.

MOSCOW, April 18 (RIA Novosti) – One of Russia’s main goals as chair of the Group of 20 nations is to boost global employment levels, its point man on G20 and BRICS issues said on Thursday.

“Russia’s goal is very simple,” said Vadim Lukov at a G20 youth forum. “[It is to] undertake measures aimed at the acceleration of stable, all-encompassing growth in employment throughout the world.”

Lukov also said Russia intended to propose greater market transparency and the stricter regulation of banking operations as part of a number of measures to boost the global economy.

He noted that Russia’s chairmanship of the organization had coincided with an “extremely difficult period in the global economy.”

Russia’s G20 sherpa, Ksenia Yudaeva, said last December that investment-driven growth would underpin Russia's presidency of the organization.

Russia took over the presidency of the G20, which includes the world’s largest economies, in December 2012. The Russian government allocated $1 million from the federal budget for G20 summit-related events.

Russia is set to host a G20 summit in St. Petersburg on September 5-6.
