Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika on Friday introduced a petition to the State Duma on stripping parliamentary immunity from Russian opposition MP Gennady Gudkov.
Russia’s Investigative Committee accuses the deputy in commercial activities which is contrary to the law on the State Duma deputies.
“On Friday evening I got a copy of a letter from Russia’s Prosecutor General Yury Chaika addressed to the State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin in which he asks parliamentarians to take a decision on my early termination of parliament’s power. The letter is titled on abuse of power and violation of ethics by deputy Gudkov,” Gennady Gudkov said.
He added that the Prosecutor General was not writing that he broke the law, he pointed out that the deputy “incorrectly uses his powers.”
The deputy has no doubt that the State Duma on September 12 will vote for his early termination of parliament’s power.
Prosecutor General has the right to ask the State Duma deputies to revoke MPs immunity and the right to initiate a criminal case against him.
