MOSCOW, April 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Kazakhstan will begin work on May 18 to place markers on the 7,500-km (4,660-mile) border between the countries, Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
The work follows from a January 2005 agreement signed by Russia's then-President Vladimir Putin and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev approving an official map of the border.
"The parties have been continuing work on choosing sites to set up border signs, and have expressed a mutual willingness to begin land demarcation, starting from May 18 of this year," a statement on the ministry website said.
Russia and Kazakhstan is one of the longest land borders in the world. The countries have been working for the past seven years to clarify disputed areas of the border, which was open during Soviet times.
