MOSCOW, December 25 (RIA Novosti) - This year Moscow bailiffs prohibited to leave Russia some 6,600 residents of the Russian capital, who failed to repay their debts, the head of the federal baliff service said on Thursday.

"For the large part they are debtors on alimony, bank loans and housing and utility payments," Ferdauis Yusupov said.

Russian laws allow a court to order people who fail to repay a debt or a fine not to leave the country, no matter what the purpose of their trip would be. The restriction may be lifted 30 days after the repayment.

The service said in its statement that the restriction on traveling was also imposed in 2008 on more than 3,000 debtors in the Moscow Region.

The service said that was much higher than for the previous year, when 2,228 Moscow Region residents were ordered by courts not to leave the country.
