VLADIVOSTOK, September 7 (RIA Novosti, Anatoly Ilyukhov) - Typhoon Nabi, which is currently raging over Japan, has started affecting the weather on the Russia's far-eastern Maritime Territory, a local meteorology expert said Wednesday.
A storm warning has been issued in the Pacific port of Vladivostok, he said. All shipping and fishing companies have been warned about the approaching storm and the captains have been ordered to anchor in safe harbors.
According to local meteorology officials, the coast in the area is covered with low clouds. Gusts of wind are approaching 20 meters per second and waves in the south of the Peter the Great Bay near Vladivostok have reached two meters (six feet). On Wednesday afternoon, gusts of wind will increase to 28 mps, and the waves could become as high as four meters (about 13 feet). Rain is possible in the area, but it is not expected to affect Vladivostok.
Typhoon Nabi, which has already lashed southern Japan, will hit the Maritime Territory with its left "wing." Japan will still bear the brunt of the storm, which will be significantly weaker when it approaches the Russian island of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. It will cease to have any influence on the Maritime Territory's weather on Thursday, the official said.
The typhoon is currently moving along the coast of Japan to the northwest at speeds of about 50 miles per hour. Winds in the eye of the storm have reached 35 mps.
