The Texas Senator handily won a whopping 48.3% of the vote versus Trump’s 35.1%, and this underdog victory raised hope among the Republican establishment that the New York maverick could be stopped. In the weeks preceding this vote, Trump flubbed a couple of his answers in addressing the issue of abortion, and Republican leaders have reportedly been holding secret talks on how to stop his rise and prompt a brokered convention this summer in Cleveland.
Whether Cruz won due to the strength of his campaign or the support of his behind-the-scenes backers, it’s impossible to argue with the fact that he just trounced Trump in what some are hoping will be a turnaround in the Republican campaign.
