Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Vasily Nebenzya for the post of Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, the Kremlin press service said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian diplomat Vasily Nebenzya was born on February 26, 1962 in Volgograd Region, Russia.

Nebenzya graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), affiliated with the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in 1983.

The diplomat has been working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1983, holding numerous offices in the ministry's central office and international diplomatic missions.

In 1998-1990 Nebenzya worked as an attache in the Soviet Embassy to Thailand.

In 1990-1992 Nebenzya held the office of the third secretary and later the second secretary of the Soviet Foreign Ministry's Department of International Organizations.

In 1993-1996 the diplomat headed a section at the Department of International Organizations.

In 1996-2000 Nebenzya performed duty of senior adviser to the Russian permanent representative to the United Nations.

In 2000-2003 Nebenzya again headed a section at the Department of International Organizations before serving as the department's deputy director in 2003-2006.

In 2006-2012 Vasily Nebenzya held the office of deputy ambassador to Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations office and other international organizations in Geneva.

In 2012-2013 Nebenzya was the director of the Foreign Ministry's Department for Humanitarian Cooperation and Human Rights.

June 1, 2013 Nebenzya was appointed a deputy foreign minister.

Nebenzya was awarded the medal of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland 2nd class (2011) and the Order of Friendship.

Nebenzya enjoys the diplomatic rank of ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary (2014).

Nebenzya is married and has a son.
