China's state counselor Yang Jeichi is scheduled to visit New Delhi in the coming few days to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in what is being described as discussion on irritants in bilateral relations. The two leaders are their countries' respective special representatives for negotiations on boundary issues and strategic consultations.
The visit holds very much importance in the wake up of the recent exchange of words over the visit of US ambassador Richard Verma to Arunachal Pradesh on October 21 this month. China had registered its reservation about this visit. "The place he (Richard Verma) visited is disputed. We are strongly opposed to the US senior diplomat attending activities in the disputed areas along the China-India borderline," Lu Kang, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said.
According to sources, the upcoming meeting will mainly focus on India's concerns over China's attempts to shield leaders of terrorist groups based in Pakistan. India has time and again stressed that China should cooperate with India on the fight against terrorism as no country is immune to the menace.
In April this year, India moved a fresh plea in the United Nations Security Council seeking sanctions against Jaish-e-Mohammad Chief Masood Azhar. However, due to China's opposition the UNSC panel was forced to keep decision on the plea "technical hold" for six months initially and again for three months.
