MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, media reports, citing unnamed US officials, suggested that Kerry and Lavrov will meet in Geneva on August 26 to discuss the Syrian settlement.
"It is too early to speak of the confirmation yet. The possibility of the meeting is directly linked to the progress in the negotiations, which are being conducted between the Russian and US experts," the source said.
In July, Kerry met with Lavrov and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where they discussed specific steps to restore the ceasefire and possible US-Russian military cooperation against terrorist groups in Syria.
Russia and the United States brokered a ceasefire in Syria on February 27. The number of settlements that have joined the ceasefire regime in Syria has since increased to 206. However, the parties have reported multiple violations of the cessation of hostilities.
