The United States acknowledges the importance of collaborating with Kazakhstan on fighting terrorism, US Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights Sarah Sewall said in a statement on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier this month, the second ministerial meeting of the C5+1 countries comprising of the five Central Asian countries — Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan — and the United States took place in Washington, DC.

"The United States welcomes Kazakhstan’s commitment to a broader and more preventive approach to terrorism, and we stand ready to work with partners who will join us to turn back this shared threat," Sewall stated.

The ministerial focused on strengthening mutual efforts against counter-transboundary threats and trafficking of weapons.

Sewall noted she has been impressed "by the thoughtfulness and commitment of our Kazakhstani colleagues to address [the radicalization] problem."

At the second ministerial meeting, the United States announced $15 million in investments for anti-terrorism projects in Central Asia.
