"President Putin has repeatedly showed during his fairly long time in office that Russia is ready to improve relations with the West, Russia seeks good and constructive relations with the West, where mutual concerns and interests are taken into account," Peskov told journalists, commenting on reports that Russia could reshuffle its cabinet following the upcoming elections in order to improve relations.
"Russia has no intentions of changing something domestically in order to please someone on the outside," he underlined.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, relations between Russia and the West suffer from repeated mutual accusations stemming from a lack of trust and unwillingness to engage in dialogue.
"This is an absolutely mutual process. In Russia, too, various political analysts and public figures are constantly accusing the West of meddling in Russia's internal affairs, trying to influence our electoral processes, endangering our national security. And the West is also unable to convince us that this is not the case," Peskov told reporters, answering a question on why Russia could not convince Western political analysts that it is not interfering in their countries' affairs.
"Unfortunately, this is mutual. The reason behind this is a catastrophic lack of trust and an unwillingness — current unwillingness — to engage in constructive dialogue. We expect that sooner or later there will be political will to change that," he added.
