Donald Trump's statements about Crimea are related to his understanding of the need for good relations with Russia.

According to Salavert, one of the reasons behind Trump's statement is also the fact that the US risks losing one of its main allies in the Middle East — Turkey.

On June 27, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin, apologized for the downing of a Russian Su-24 attack aircraft by a Turkish jet in November 2015 and extended his condolences to the family of the pilot killed in the incident.
According to Salavert, Trump seeks reconciliation with Russia, because he understands that the anti-Russian policy of Washington is completely unfavorable to the United States.
