CLEVELAND (Sputnik) — The platform also noted the Republican Party will not accept any changes to territory in Eastern Europe that are done by force, including in Ukraine and Georgia.
"We [the Republican Party] support maintaining and if warranted, increasing sanctions, together with our allies, against Russia unless and until Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are fully restored," the platform approved on Monday stated.
Moreover, the Republican platform also said the party will "support providing appropriate assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine and greater coordination with NATO defense planning."
Since 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea reunified with Russia in 2014 and over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.
Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
