MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the spokesman, the two sides could cooperate if the alliance turned its focus to strengthening confidence and fighting terrorism rather than searching for an enemy in Russia.
"We expect that some sort of common sense will eventually prevail. Russia has been and continues to be open to dialogue, interested in cooperation, but only if it's mutually beneficial and takes mutual interests into account," Peskov told reporters.
"If one is going to actively search for an enemy in order to promote anti-Russian hysteria, so to speak, and then, proceeding from this emotional background, deploys some sort of new aviation units, ground units, moving them close to Russian borders, of course, there can hardly be any ground for cooperation," Peskov said.
On July 8-9, NATO is holding a summit in Warsaw, Poland, where it is expected to discuss boosting the Alliance’s military presence in Eastern Europe and cooperation with the regional states, among other topics.
