Putin Rules Out Russia's Interference With Brexit in Past, Future

The Russian president reiterated that the UK's EU referendum was exclusively Britons' issue.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia has not and will not interfere in any way with Brexit process, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday.

"I would like to focus one more time on the fact that the so-called Brexit is the choice of UK nationals and we have not and will not interfere with this process," Putin said at a meeting with Russian diplomats.

He added that the outcome of Brexit had a major negative effect on global markets, but the situation would certainly restore in the mid-run.

On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
