The decision of the British voters to leave the European Union taken at the referendum on Thursday is an example of what may happen when the European policies are not explained well enough to people, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek said in a statement on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.

"I wish that we would be able to take a lesson from the result of the British referendum. Its outcome is an example of what can happen when there is a lack of explanation of European policy actions… The EU should better react to its citizens‘ everyday needs. Future EU integration must therefore take place only in those areas where it can convince citizens and show them real results," the minister said, adding that he wished "we would be able to take a lesson from the result of the British referendum".

On Friday, the  Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic will meet his European counterparts in Luxembourg to discuss the consequences and further necessary steps in connection with the UK referendum result, the press-office stated.
