With the migration deadlock showing no signs of abating, Europe currently guarantees what Alberoni described as "a space of peace and stability in the Mediterranean."
"It is a difficult goal that is being avoided by all European allies. To achieve it, Europe must tackle the paltry constraints set by Brussels and Germany and create a new political alliance stretching from the UK to Russia," he pointed out.
According to him, such an alliance will be able to think and act as a great power, and it will occupy "a vacant seat left by the Americans."
"This will be a Europe spreading from the Atlantic to the Urals, something that was mentioned by General De Gaulle, which will incorporate all historically European territory. It will have its own army and its own geopolitical power," Alberoni said.
He added that this will be a strong Europe which could have benefits in its relationship with Asian nations and ensure the political and economic development of the Mediterranean countries of North Africa.
Last month, the International Organization for Migration reported that most of the migrants and refugees who arrived in Europe had opted to take the Central Mediterranean route from North Africa.
Europe has been beset by a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa to escape violence and poverty.
