Journalism Faces Challenges to Maintain Plurality of Opinions - UNESCO

One of the main challenges of the modern media is currently to maintain the plurality of opinions and the diversity of the media, Assistant Director-General Communication and Information at UNESCO Frank La Rue said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — He stressed that journalism should be presented by many forms of information "to be able to contrast and to discuss and to debate."

"For me the biggest challenge for journalism before the Internet and now after the Internet, for traditional media and non-traditional media, is the same in the sense of maintaining plurality and diversity [of the media]," La Rue said on the sidelines of the the New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream international media forum in Moscow.

"Truth is not a property, this is something we build collectively by a process of constant debate and complementarity. Truth is something we are trying to reach," La Rue noted.

The international media forum is taking place in Russia's capital on June 6-7. It is hosted by the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency and is part of the 75th anniversary of the Soviet Information Bureau. Media experts from over 30 countries of the world take part in the forum.
