Polish Officer Accused of Spying for Russia Sentenced to Six Years in Jail

A Polish Army lieutenant colonel has been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of spying for Russian intelligence, Polish local media reported Monday citing a military court official.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the official, the officer was arrested in 2014 while the sentencing took place on April 26, 2016.

"A military district court in Warsaw has sentenced Lt. Col. Zbignev Y. to six years in prison for spying for Russia," the official told the PAP news agency.

According to unofficial reports, the convict allegedly passed to Moscow classified lists of Polish soldiers, who could have been targeted by Russian recruiters.
