The United States has legitimate concerns about the future direction of Israeli policy amid the ascendance of a right-wing governing coalition whose leaders oppose a two-state solution, US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner told reporters on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States, Toner noted, is also aware that many of the new government’s ministers have said that they oppose a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestine crisis.

“We have also seen reports from Israel describing it as the most right-wing coalition in Israel’s history,” Toner stated. “This raises legitimate questions about the direction it may be headed in and what kind of policies it may adopt.”

The US government will work with the new coalition in Israel and remains steadfast in its commitment to both Israeli security and a two-state solution, he added.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached a deal with his former foreign minister’s right-wing party to expand the ruling coalition that may be signed as soon as Wednesday, the Israeli press reported, quoting ruling party sources.
