Global need for humanitarian aid amounts to $245 billion annually, which is 12 times more than 15 years ago, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Tuesday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Speaking at the final plenary session of the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Ban urged all states, non-governmental, private and regional organizations to assist the United Nations in reaching long-term results.

German, Saudi Foreign Ministers to Discuss Middle East Crisis

The first World Humanitarian Summit took place on May 23-24 in Istanbul. The UN Secretary-General initiated the summit as a call to tackle the consequences of political and economic disasters. The world leaders held meetings and to discussed measures to prevent and reduce human suffering. Representatives of 177 countries, including 65 government leaders, participated in the summit.
