The US delegation at the 25th annual meeting of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice this week is planning to host a side event on methods to persuade convicted terrorists to stop killing, the US Department of State announced in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Luis Arreaga will lead the US delegation, which includes representatives from the departments of State and Justice, and the US city of Atlanta Police Department, the release explained.

The US delegation plans to hold two side events, according to the release.

"[One] event focuses on the use of alternative sentencing measures for terrorism-related offenses as a way to promote disengagement and rehabilitation."

The other US-hosted session will explore ways to prevent hate crimes against "LGBTI" persons. The release expanded the traditional LGBT acronym to add "intersex persons" as a category in addition to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.

Critics have accused the Obama administration of treating terrorism as a law-enforcement problem instead of a national security issue caused by a perverted interpretation of Islam.
