EU Worries US 'Will Cave in to Russia' and Partly Lift Sanctions Over Syria

Some parties in the European Union are concerned the US leadership will cut a deal with Russia to provide partial sanctions relief in return for concessions in the US-Russian relationship in Syria, EU Delegation to the US deputy head Caroline Vicini said on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Obama administration is leaving office at the beginning of 2017, and needs a “result” in Syria, that is why there is a concern in EU that there would be “some kind of deal between the United States and Russia to change part of the sanctions,” Vicini explained.

“There is a slight worry also in Europe that the US will cave in to Russia due to Syria,” he said at an Atlantic Council discussion on anti-Russian sanctions.
