MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier this week, reports emerged that the AKP would likely replace Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at an extraordinary congress in the coming weeks. The decision came following a long meeting between Davutoglu and President Recep Tayipp Erdogan.
Davutoglu will not be nominated to the post of party leader, the television channel CNN Turk reported.
The congress has been convened in the wake of Turkey's increased security challenges and emerging disagreements between the president and the prime minister, in particular, on the question of strengthening the office of the presidency, on the Kurdish issue and the detention of opposition media employees.
