TOKYO (Sputnik) – The plan that Abe will present during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will contain eight points and will cover such areas as oil and gas development and the modernization of ports and airports in the Far East.

On Sunday, Abe left for a visit to Russia and G7 states prior to the group’s summit in Japan in late May. He is expected to meet with Putin on May 6.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Moscow hoped that the Friday meeting would help form a constructive atmosphere in Russia-Japan relations.

The relations are currently overshadowed by the Kuril Islands territorial dispute.
