The negotiations process on Syria in Geneva must continue despite the situation being extremely tense as there is no alternative way to settle the crisis, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The situation around the Syrian peace talks calls for all-around efforts and Russia is ready to cooperate with everyone, especially with the United States, Kremlin spokesman said.

“Russia is consistently holding the line so that the negotiations process in Geneva continues. We believe that it is extremely important and there is no alternative in solving the Syrian settlement. Russia is completely open to cooperation with other interested countries, <…> primarily with the United states,” Peskov told journalists.

The Kremlin spokesman also stressed that the negotiations process is “tense.”

“[The negotiations process] obviously requires very energetic efforts from all sides,” Peskov added.
