UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has warned against a lack of prompt action to resolve the Syrian conflict that the Daesh jihadist group could take advantage of.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Wednesday, de Mistura closed the April round of intra-Syrian peace talks and summarized commonalities between the positions of the Syrian government and opposition delegations.

"I've been with the UN for 45 years… and I've never seen a conflict which has become so complicated by so many countries and so many entities involved in it," de Mistura said in a Thursday interview with RT, adding that the parties involved must not forget that "behind all of this is ISIS [IS], who are waiting to take advantage of the hesitation of international community."

All parties at the intra-Syrian peace talks agree that a transitional government in Syria should include members of the current government, as well as the opposition, according to the UN special envoy.

De Mistura warned on Wednesday that the situation in Syria is "extremely dangerous" and a "potential collapse of cessation of hostilities" is possible. In view of that, the UN special envoy stressed that holding the next round of intra-Syrian talks in May is an urgent objective.

Kadyrov: Syrian Opposition Should Unite With Assad to Save People

Syria has been mired in civil war since March 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups, such as the Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. The truce does not apply to Daesh or al-Nusra Front. De Mistura has called on Russia and the United States to relaunch the cessation of hostilities in order to ensure better compliance with the ceasefire regime.
